Introduction

• Brief introduction of self, class details, objectives and benefits of a childbirth education program.
• Fill enrollment form along with the participant and obtain signature.The introduction is offered prior to the enrollment form being filled so that the participant is sure about her decision to join the group.
•  Give diet sheet for her to fill. This would be a list of all the things that she has eaten the previous day. Evaluate the diet sheet.
•  Explanation of various diet and nutrition factors with specific relation to pregnancy.
•  Then suggest changes in diet if necessary.
•   Hand over an ideal diet program relevant to each participant depending on the trimester and physical requirements.


• Discussion on pregnancy :

Interactive session where participants air their views on pregnancy, their fears, ideas, feelings etc. The participants can react to each other and give their reactions to each other’s feelings. Instructor can take up each idea and discuss in more detail. If any topic requires in depth discussion then postpone to a later date when it can be dealt with properly.

•Common pregnancy complaints
•Danger signs – when to call your doctor in a hurry.
•Introduction to exercise. Benefits in pregnancy and when it is to be avoided.
•10 minute exercise session. Outline a programme to be followed by the participants at their residence. Refresher sessions will be conducted at each session.

Session will cover the labor process, breathing and pain techniques and how the husband can help the wife in the Labor and Delivery process.

Post Partum

This session is to be conducted post partum. Any queries that the participant may have relating to the topics covered during the course can be answered. This session is important as the participant has
the opportunity to talk about her birth experience. It also provides an excellent feedback opportunity for the instructor. The participant can give suggestions if any for the course content.

Post partum exercise and diet routine is also to be reviewed in this session.
